ESL tutor

Teach English language lessons to refugees of all ages (children and adults) currently living in New Jersey. Certification or past experience in tutoring ESL/ELL is suggested/desired but not required. We provide all curricula/materials for tutors and students. Lessons are 40-60 minutes, once or twice per week, depending on the mutual availability and desire of the student and tutor pair. Lessons are conducted one-on-one with a student; lessons can be virtual (Zoom) or in-person or a hybrid combination. Our coordinator matches student proficiency with your interest in teaching. Students' proficiency range from pre-beginner/illiterate in their native language all the way up to advanced English speakers who need homework help or vocational vocabulary lessons---and everyone in between! Although lessons can be all-virtual if desired, tutors are expected to reside in New Jersey to receive materials on an ongoing basis. Minimum commitment is 3 months to provide continuity to our students. Background check is required. Training is mandatory and is provided for free virtually one-on-one and by on-demand video. Basic digital literacy is required for tutors. It is not required to speak a language in common with your student--in fact it is sometimes advantageous not to have a common language to encourage practicing the material.
