Blue Lake is located in the southern Warner Mountains, in rural Northeast California. This beautiful 160-acre lake sits at 6,000 feet in elevation and features a campground, day use area with boat launch, and the Blue Lake National Recreation Trail that circles the lake. There is also a youth camp, permitted by the Forest Service, located nearby. The gateway community of Likely is located 13 miles away (~25 minutes). Full-service communities in the vicinity include Alturas (1 hour) and Susanville (2 hours).
Blue Lake Campground features 48 sites on a first-come-first-served basis, and is the largest campground in the Warner Mountains. This fee campground features many amenities including toilets, excellent drinking water, trash collection, fire pits, and picnic tables. There is also a group site now available for reservations on recreation.gov .
Camp host(s) are expected to camp on site through the season [Memorial Day weekend though Labor Day weekend (May 27 th - September 2nd) and provide general oversight and management of the facility, provide information to visitors, and coordinate with Forest Service staff on a frequent basis. We are flexible on start and end dates. Host(s) are welcome to stay through October.
Along with free camping, a daily stipend is available for each host providing services that day. Work schedules are flexible, though being present at least 5 days a week, including weekends and holidays, is expected. A Forest Service vehicle can be provided, and supplies such as propane can be reimbursed.
