Arthropod Taxonomy Data Curator

Do you have taxonomical knowledge of one or several families or genera of arthropods? (specifically, of common arthropod species in the Massachusetts area). If so, we need your skills!

An Arthropod Taxonomy Data Curator is a specialist who helps document and verify the identification of arthropods, which include insects, spiders, and other similar creatures. Their role involves curating records, ensuring the accuracy of taxonomic data, and often working with participatory scientists to compile robust data about arthropod interactions and their associations with floral hosts.

Help EwA document arthropod interaction networks so that we can understand better arthropod activity and their association dynamic with their floral hosts. Your role is to help curate the records of EwA participatory scientists, specifically to verify and help identify

Type of help: Mission Statement: Earthwise Aware (EwA) runs a conservation participatory science program that supports biodiversity and climate research while advancing the democratization of science. The program covers various urban habitats in Greater Boston and fills essential data gaps that serve local, state, and national needs. The programming, the partnerships, and the integrative and democratic approach to participatory research is a model for other organizations looking to put best practices into effect. Description: EwA promotes a form of scientific contribution and experiential learning through a participatory science program (a.k.a. citizen science) that is systems-based with an emphasis on in situ species interactions. Together, the program's projects reveal a continuous natural history of local habitats. EwA participatory scientists utilize technology to collect data that fill critical knowledge gaps. Participatory scientists follow rigorous protocols and use specialized apps to compile robust data about pollinators and their host plants, arthropod and bird abundance, the timing of plant and animal life events, invasive species, essential habitat degradation indicators, and more.
