Tech Buddies

Help our older adults learn how to operate various devices such as iPad, computers, laptops, smartphones, and help navigate social media. Volunteers will get paired off with an older adult for a one-on-one session or will help teach a small group via phone/Zoom. Desperately In Need Of Spanish Speaking Volunteers

Location:

Fort Independence Senior Center Classes will be conducted on Zoom

Responsibilities:

Teach and assist participants how to use selected smartphones applications
Teach and assist participants how to use online applications
Foster an optimistic environment of kindness, community, mutual respect, and effective communication with all participants
Qualifications:

Must be dependable and punctual
Technologically proficient and knowledgeable of various computer and cellular applications
A sense of humor is encouraged
Ability to relate well to people and enjoy engaging with them
A friendly and approachable manner with an ability to encourage and motivate
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Patience is an absolute must, as you will be teaching the same thing over & over
Spanish is a HUGE PLUS lots of our residents only speak Spanish
Day & Time Commitment:

Thursday's 12:30pm - 1:30 pm (Fort Independence Older Adult Center) NEED SPANISH SPEAKING
For a minimum of 3 months

What else ...: Our story begins in 1942 when a few MMCC programs were run from a storefront on Gun Hill Road, basements on Wayne Avenue, and rented rooms in a local school. In 1958, the main building was built and the programs were expanded to meet the needs of the community annually serving 35,000 Bronx and Manhattan individuals and families of all ages.
